Discussions of Wyoming’s death penalty resurfaced last month when Gov. Mark Gordon told a legislative committee that he was “looking very seriously” at issuing an executive moratorium on the death penalty, noting the roughly $1 million annual cost of keeping it on the books.

The ACLU of Wyoming believes that the state’s death penalty laws violate both the United States and Wyoming Constitutions and we are asking the state’s legislators to repeal the capital punishment in the state.

As the Legislature begins to seriously consider the budget for the upcoming biennium, legislators will be faced with some hard decisions. Revenue is down, and there aren’t many more ways to cut the fat. But there is one way: end the death penalty in Wyoming.

The ACLU of Wyoming is working to end the death penalty in our state and is part of the Wyoming Campaign to End the Death Penalty in 2020.

Every single elected official whether they're in Congress or the Legislature, should answer to their constituents.

Definitions may vary, but one thing remains constant, its importance.
