The ACLU is thrilled that Gov. Gordon has vetoed House Bill 148 and that people will still be able to make their own health care decisions regarding abortion without government interference. But make no mistake – the right to an abortion is still under attack in Wyoming.
Allowing Senate File 9 to pass into law without a signature is shameful and only reinforces the incorrect notion that transgender students are not entitled to the same dignity, respect and rights as all students.
As the future of abortion care in Wyoming remains undecided in the state’s ongoing legal battle over abortion access, some legislators are trying to push these reproductive health services out of reach with legislation that places burdensome and medically unnecessary restrictions on providers.
The ACLU of Wyoming opposes House Bill 38, legislation that would require people to live in the state for at least 30 days to register to vote. This is an unnecessary – and unconstitutional – barrier to a citizen’s right to participate in elections.
Senate File 99 would take away private health care choices around the provision of medical care consistent with prevailing medical and scientific standards. Such choices should be made between a doctor and a patient, not politicians.
