Pints & Politics: Jackson

Community, connections, and conversation are on tap. But happy hour won't be as happy without you! Join the ACLU for Pints & Politics, your chance to socialize with advocates for civil rights, changemakers, and all others who dare to create a more perfect union in Wyoming. The first 50 people to RSVP will receive a voucher for a pint of beer (or beverage of your choosing) on us! Change happens in our state when we talk to each other and share our ideas. So let's raise a glass to each other and the work that we can do together.

Legal Observer Training - Cheyenne

Protest has been a tried-and-true way to create change for centuries – and these days, more and more people are making their voices heard by marching in the streets. We love to see people exercising their First Amendment rights like this! The right to join with fellow citizens in protest or peaceful assembly, after all, is critical to a functioning democracy. But lately, we've been subjected to escalating threats to our free society. We are up against a coordinated assault on the constitutional right to free speech and political dissent that has sustained our American democracy. Will you help us protect protesters, hold law enforcement accountable, and defend our free society? We'll be hosting an in-person legal observer training in Cheyenne at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 11. (The address will be provided after you register.) The need for legal observers is critical to deter and stand up to unlawful governmental intervention at protests and document potential abuse of power. By completing this training and joining the ACLU's volunteer legal observer team, you can do your part to uphold the First Amendment.

Rock Springs Trainings

We are up against a coordinated assault on our constitutional rights. Your community needs you. When you know what the law says, you can be better equipped to protect yourself, your family, and your community. And when you're trained to hold law enforcement accountable and defend free speech, those protections only strengthen tenfold. That's why the ACLU of Wyoming is coming to Rock Springs for TWO in-person training sessions. Join us for an informational training on your rights when interacting with police and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice). Then, join us for a legal observer training to learn how to deter unlawful governmental intervention at protests and document potential abuse of power. All are welcome to participate in one of these trainings, or better yet, join us for both! Please indicate which trainings you plan to attend.

Truth to Power

For 20 days every other year, our elected lawmakers are tasked with one non-negotiable constitutional duty: passing a balanced state budget that allocates funds responsibly. Yet the budget hasn’t seemed to be the biggest priority for some of our legislators this year. Instead, we’ve seen attempts to fast-track bills with sweeping consequences for our civil liberties during a session meant for fiscal priorities. We need to remind our elected officials before session ends about what’s really important to Wyomingites. That's why we're collaborating with our partners statewide to help you take action. At the Truth to Power events across Wyoming, you'll hear from the leaders of local advocacy organizations about bills they're tracking and we'll write letters to our lawmakers using guidance from advocacy experts. Join us at one of these letter-writing parties on Tuesday, February 24 at 6:30 p.m. MT. Cheyenne: 3005 Thomes Ave. Cheyenne, WY 82001 with the ACLU of Wyoming and Wyoming Equality Jackson: Lobby of the Center for the Arts at 240 S. Glenwood Street, Jackson, WY 83001 with Jackson Hole Pride. Laramie: 211 E. Grand Ave. Laramie, WY 82070 with Juntos Rock Springs: Western Wyoming Community College Room 1302 (by the pendulum) at 2500 College Dr. Rock Springs, WY 82901 with 50501 Our elected officials represent us, and they need to hear what we have to say. We hope you'll join us. Democracy thrives when we all participate!
