Letter Writing Party: WyoSayNo

May 12, 2019 @ 11:30 am 1:30 pm

Join us with friends from Highlands United Presbyterian Church and the Wyo Say No campaign.

Letters and e-mails sent directly to your elected officials are extremely impactful. At this session, we will work with you to craft the perfect letter, email or post card to Wyoming Elected Officials.

We will send letters to the Governor, Secretary of State, Superintendent of Instruction, State Auditor, and the State Treasurer at the Highlands United Presbyterian Church. The five elected officials we are writing have the power to approve or decline the build of MTC's proposed private prison near Evanston. It's important we make our voices heard.

Why write letters?
Letter writing is an effective tactic. We know this because with the exception of those in leadership roles, most legislators have no staff. This means they’re the ones who are answering when constituents call or write emails. The amount of feedback a legislator gets on a certain issue can help determine its importance in their eyes. For example, if a legislator is getting a ton of e-mails and letters saying “vote NO on this bill,” it’s bound to make a big impression.

As with any other meeting or communication with your elected officials, politeness the key to success. Be kind, be honest, and share your personal story. Facts are important, but personal and relatable stories can play a powerful role in changing hearts, minds, and votes.
