The American Civil Liberties Union today announced that Sabrina King has been named Policy Director for the ACLU of Wyoming.

As Policy Director, King will be responsible for developing issue campaigns to advance civil liberties and civil rights in the Equality State. During the 2017 legislative session, King will maintain a full-time lobbying presence at the Wyoming Legislature.

“Sabrina comes to the ACLU with a wealth of experience and we’re lucky to have a person of her caliber join our organization,” said Heather Smith, executive director of the ACLU of South Dakota, who oversees the ACLU’s work in South Dakota, North Dakota, and Wyoming.

Prior to moving to Wyoming, King worked as an organizer and lobbyist representing family farmers and ranchers in South Dakota on issues ranging from food freedom to the Keystone XL pipeline. She also organized in western Colorado to reform the Federal Coal Leasing Program. Originally from Utah, King got her degree in Political Science and worked at the Utah State Legislature in various capacities. Deeply in love with the rural West, she is ready to get to work in Wyoming.

“I’m really looking forward to strengthening the ACLU’s presence here in Wyoming,” said King. “There is a lot of opportunity for us here together in the Equality State to protect people’s civil liberties and rights.”

The Wyoming National Chapter of the ACLU is a non-partisan organization dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of civil liberties and civil rights. The ACLU believes freedoms of press, speech, assembly, and religion, and the rights to due process, equal protection and privacy, are fundamental to a free people.  In addition, the ACLU seeks to advance constitutional protections for groups traditionally denied their rights, including people of color, women, and the LGBT communities. The ACLU of Wyoming carries out its work through selective litigation, lobbying at the state and local level and through public education and awareness of what the Bill of Rights means for people of Wyoming.
