Defending First Amendment freedoms, equality, privacy rights and fundamental fairness requires constant vigilance and support. Each year, individuals and institutions -- including foundations, unions and corporations -- demonstrate their commitment to those shared constitutional values through steady gifts and grants to the ACLU Foundation.

Gifts to the ACLU Foundation are tax-deductible to the donor to the extent permissible by law.Membership dues for donors who "Join" and become card-carrying members of the ACLU are gifts to the American Civil Liberties Union. These dues and other gifts to the American Civil Liberties Union are not tax-deductible. Many donors choose to make their larger tax-deductible gifts to the ACLU Foundation and also make smaller gifts to the American Civil Liberties Unionin order to maintain their 'card-carrying' membership status with the ACLU.
